DIY: Oreo Halloween Treat
These cute bat cupcakes will bring smiles to any one who eats them.

October is here and this diy oreo Halloween treat is a cute addition to your Halloween party.
I love finding easy party treats to try. These take little effort and look amazing.
I made them for my kids as an afterschool treat and they were so shocked at the silly bats.
This post is all about how to make cupcakes with oreo cookie bats.
I got this super easy Halloween treat idea from Woman’s Day magazine.ย When I saw how easily these could be made, I decided to try them out.
Is It An Easy Activity For Kids To Help
This is the perfect kid friendly dessert to let the little ones help. Kids can scrap the icing off the cupcakes and Oreos. They can even be in charge of assembly. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and it’s something fun.

Ingredients:
Cupcakes: It was a weekday so I decided I was not going to go all out and bake cupcakes. We need things to go as smoothly as possible during the school week. So I took the easy, no smart way out and I bought some mini cupcakes from Walmart. Mini or regular size cupcakes are fine to use for this Halloween treat.
Miniature Reeses: Not the super mini reeses like I bought at first, but the miniature reeses.
Vanilla Icing: For convenience I bought the ready made icing but if that is not for you go ahead and whip up a quick batch of buttercream icing.
Oreos: These will be used to make the cute bats.
Royal icing: This icing can be used to adhere the bats.
Eyes: Eyes are sold in the sprinkle section by themselves or inside a Halloween mix.
Gel or powder colors: Used to color the icing going on top cupcakes

What Tools Are Needed
Toothpicks
Piping bags
Spoons
Bowls
Everything you need for this project will most likely be in your kitchen! There is nothing fancy required.
Prepare Icing
This icing will be used to pipe on top of the cupcakes. I used The Sugar Art master elite powder colors to color the icing orange, violet, and yellow.
The Sugar Art master elite colors are beautiful and vibrant. They develop the longer you let them sit. If using powders is not your thing, I also use Americolor gels and Sugar Art now has their colors available as gel. I have not used the Sugar Art gel colors yet.
You can pick any colors you desire. These colors scream Halloween to me so I went with them.
How To Make Bat Eyes
You can use royal icing to make the bat eye transfers. Using white and black royal icing, make a circle with the white royal icing then add the black royal icing in the center.
Any size is acceptable to make; just let these transfers dry overnight.
If you don’t have time to make royal icing transfers, you can buy eyes that are already made.
How To Assemble The Oreo Halloween Treat
- Scrap icing off cupcakes that were purchased from Walmart.
- Take apart the Oreos and scrape off the cream. This is why it doesn’t matter if you use regular or double-stuffed Oreos.
- Cut Oreos into half pieces.
- Using royal icing to attach, place a little royal icing behind the Oreos or on top of the Reeses. Then position Oreos on top of Reeses to resemble a bat.
- Use royal icing to attach eyes.
- Stick a toothpick through Reeses and use the other end to stick it into the cupcake.
These were such cute afterschool snacks for kids. Let me know if you try these out! They are spooky and fun at the same time!
