Are you thinking of ways to spend time with family, friends, and kids this holiday season?

Hosting a cookie decorating party is the best way to get everyone together. It’s the end of the year, and everyone is looking for a fun way to spend time with family and friends.

If you are like me, you want to make these parties memorable. And I love adding a special touch to make my parties memorable.

I have five items you will want to snag to add to your next cookie decorating party.

This post is all about essential items for a cookie decorating party.

The Basics:

  • Theme: You need a theme to get your party started. It can be a birthday party theme or any holiday that is approaching. You can then center the cookies you make around the theme.
  • Cookies: Your cookies can be in any shape you can think of. If your theme is Halloween, you could pick cookies in the form of pumpkins, bats, or candy corn. I like to select shapes that only use 1-3 different colors of royal icing.

Simple shapes work out the best because usually the guests are not professional cookie decorators, so they will appreciate a simple fun party.

Make extra cookies the guest can take home that won’t be decorated at the party. They can have fun at home or show off their decorating skills.

Things You Need For Your Party

Chalkboard Signs

You can put each guest’s name in their assigned spot. Of course, they can move around, but it will make your guests feel extra important that there is a unique spot just for them. They can take these signs home, or you can reuse them for your next party.

When I go to a gathering, and there is a seat with my name on it, I feel so special. Your guests will appreciate the extra time you took to make them feel that way.

Piping Bags

Piping bags are a must, of course. Before the party, you will need to make your royal icing. I usually make the royal icing in an outline/flood consistency so the guests can use one piping bag of royal icing to outline and flood their sugar cookies. If necessary, you can just make an outline consistency to help with details.

Usually, I let two guests share piping bags. And that works out with no problem. That is fine if you want each guest to have their own piping bags. They can take their icing home with them and do more decorating.

Containers

These containers will be so helpful with holding the royal icing piping bags. You can place them on the table, giving you a place to display everything nicely and tidily.

These containers can also hold sprinkles, toothpicks, scribes, and other tools. If you decide you want each guest to have their own container, consider personalizing it by adding vinyl.

You can also incorporate the theme by decorating the containers with window clings from dollar tree.

Boxes

After you spend time together making memories, your guest will need something to take their cookies home in. And we are not using paper plates to make them transfer their dessert. Providing cookie boxes for your guests will give your party a nice touch.

It will protect the cookies so no one will worry about them sliding around in the car. You can add a ribbon around the box to give it a nice look.

Serving Tray

Of course, you will have food at your party. And a beautiful food set up is a must. I recommend this 3 tier food serving tray because adding height to your display will level up the look.

Some ideas for food could be finger sandwiches, fish, chicken, sandwich wraps, fruit, etc. Anything your guests can grab a munch on while cookie decorating is a great addition.

You need these five items to have the ultimate cookie decorating party! Is there anything else you have at your parties that makes them stand out? Let me know!
